Representatives of 24 EU countries protested the United States over plans to impose new sanctions against the “Nord stream-2” pipeline, reports the German publication Welt.
It is noted that the European delegation expressed a note of protest to the US State Department during a video conference on August 12. At the same time, it is not specified at what level this was done.
In terms of content, the note repeats the statement of the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrel, dated July 17. The report said that the European Union is concerned about the increasing use or threat of sanctions by Washington against European companies, including the “Nord stream-2” project.
At the end of July, the US Senate approved a new defense budget providing for additional restrictive measures against “Nord stream-2.” Existing sanctions apply to organizations that are engaged in laying pipes, as well as insurance companies involved in this.
